About Walkabout Tremont

Walkabout Tremont encourages individuals to experience the best of Tremont’s creative, walkabout neighborhood during the second Friday of each month. You can explore galleries, boutiques, bars, and restaurants and mingle with other creative types while you do so!

At each Walkabout Tremont event, you can find visual artists, photographers, sculptors, jewelers, fiber artists, mixed media artists, artisans, small nonprofits, and craftspeople of all kinds. In the summer months, you can also find musical acts, street entertainment, and pop-up tents featuring art and artists from within and outside Tremont. Here are a few common stops you can look forward to:

  • Doubting Thomas — This art gallery features paint, collage, resin, sculpture, photography, poetry, performance, music, and experimentation pieces.

  • Tremont Public Works — This gallery, cafe, and special event space celebrates local culinary talent, art, and commerce.

  • Paul Duda Gallery — The Paul Duda Gallery features fine art and photography, picture framing, digital photo restoration, and more.

This event honors the creative legacy of Tremont, dating all the way back to the late 1980s. At that time, artists flocked to Tremont as property was cheaper and the area was considered “edgy.” In 1993, a group of artists started collaborating and hosting events, known as the “ArtWalk.”

In 2016, the ArtWalk began to feel its age. Tremont was no longer as edgy or cheap as it used to be, but art was still a huge part of the neighborhood. A group of volunteers came together to breathe new life into the event, rebranding it as Walkabout Tremont.

Now, this event features monthly themes all year round. The second half of 2024 features themes like:

  • June — Walkabout on the Wild Side

  • July — American Classics

  • August — Let’s Luau

  • September — Fall for Walkabout

  • October — Trick or Treat; Arts & Eats

  • November — Light Up Your Holidays

  • December — Light Up Your Holidays
